The Art of Shakespeare
Jan 17 – Feb 11, 2025

William Shakespeare's plays and poems have inspired works of art that are equally as captivating as the Bard's writing.

Explore Kodner's selection of oil paintings and watercolors inspired by Shakespearean plays such as The Taming of the Shrew, Henry IV, The Merry Wives of Windsor, As You Like It, Measure for Measure, and Macbeth. This online exhibition includes work from European painters in the eighteenth and nineteenth century when romantic illustrations of literary and theatrical themes and characters were extremely popular.

These artworks all appear in The Art of Shakespeare a book edited by Georgina Callan that includes notable eighteenth and nineteenth century artworks depicting Shakespearean characters and scenes.

To view these artworks in person and view a copy of The Art of Shakespeare, stop by Kodner Gallery Monday - Friday from 9:30- 5:30 or Saturday from 10 - 4.
