BIOGRAPHY
Paul Harney, American (1850-1915)
Born in New Orleans, Paul Harney moved to Saint Louis at an early age and became prominent in the regional art community. He studied at the National Academy in New York City and the Royal Academy in Munich and then settled in Alton, Illinois, across the river from Saint Louis. He taught art classes and served as a professor at Shurtleff College. He occupied a chair in the Saint Louis School of Fine Art and was a member of the Saint Louis Artist Guild and the Society of Western Artists.
