Gustav Friedrich Papperitz, German (1813-1861)

The Romanticist, Gustav Friedrich Papperitz was a student of Johann Christian Clausen Dahl at the Dresden School of Art. In 1836, like many other young artists, he joined Carl Rottmann in Munich. Papperitz spent quite some time traveling; inspired by Dahl, his first journey took him to Norway. The two oil studies at the bottom were created during the artist's first stay in Italy from 1838 to 1841.
